Rated NC-17

Note to Sam from Dad: Sam, I'm sorry. I realize this video clip of you in the buff might tramatize you when you're a teenager. I wish I could tell you I protested vehimately, but as you'll see, I was right behind you egging you on. I guess we became so excited about you mastering the art of crawling that we got a little carried away. For the record, having you crawl into the bathroom was your Mom's idea. For some reason, you're fascsinated with the commode and you hightail it in there whenever you have a chance. We're hoping this obsession carries over to the potty training era. Anyway, sorry about the naked clip, kid. I owe you one.

Longing for the Sun

When we woke up today it was beautiful and sunny so Sam and I loaded up the stroller and headed out for a walk and a stop at Starbucks. Not long after, the dark clouds came rushing in and the rain started to drop. I got a good jog in as we scrambled back to our house. After we dried off, Sam sat longing for the sunshine we had on Saturday. It was picture-perfect. Steve went to Wrigley to watch the Cubs clobber the Sox again. Sam and I had our first swimming lesson. Sam just loved the pool. He wasn't fearful at all and had a great time splashing around. After swimming we took a little rest at home before heading over to a coworkers house for a barbeque. Lots of good summer fun! Today we're headed to St. Barnabas for mass and a meeting about Sam's upcoming baptism. According to Tom Skilling, we're supposed to have sun on and off throughout the day. Here's hoping!

Sam at Seven Months

Sam hit the seven-month marker on Sunday and the only way to describe him is to say he is perpetually in motion! Whether he’s banging toys on his highchair, jumping up and down in his exersaucers or shimmying across the floor, the little man is on the move. He even does circles at night in his crib! Just watching him makes us tired. Trying to keep up with him...thoroughly exhausting!

Dad's Day

One of the great things about Sam is watching Steve be his Dad. I fell in love with Steve all over again in the days following Sam’s birth – from the very first moment, Steve showered Sam with kindness, patience and an endless supply of love (and he got me a very nice push present :).

As time has passed Steve’s carried more than his share of the load, managing the midnight feedings (almost every single night), mastering the art of diaper changes and even operating as a single father when work has taken me out of town.

If the first seven months are any indication, Steve is well on his way to superDADom!

Happy (belated) Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!

Bawk Bawk

A few weeks ago a colleague was cleaning out their office and found a chicken hat that had been produced back when KFC was a client. They were planning to throw it away, but I saw it as a golden opportunity to introduce Sam to one of our feathered friends. Being able to wear it on our heads is a nice added bonus. Steve and I find the chicken hat is always good for a laugh. Sam, on the other hand, isn't really into it.

Sam I Am

Little Sam had a chance to meet big Sam (Hergott) this weekend. He and Tara came over on Saturday night to meet Baby P and have some dinner. Little Sam showed off his tummy and big Sam showed off his tongue.

Our Little Cubbie Bear

On Saturday Sam took in his first Cubs game at Wrigley Field. We strapped him in the Baby Bjorn and enjoyed a full four innings of baseball before Sam decided he had better things to do (nap). Still, he was on his best behavior, smiling and cooing at the other fans and even yelping out a few times in support of his Cubbies.

After our early departure and a long nap, Sam joined his Dad on the deck for a late-afternoon beer and a toast to the Cubs' victory.
