Memorial Day Barbeque

The Damasks were kind enough to host us for a Memorial Day barbeque last weekend. Sam had lots of fun getting to know Eliana and Virginie and swinging on the swing set. Ryan grilled a feast and we all enjoyed lounging around in the backyard. We endured a few raindrops, but I think I speak for us all when I say, THANK GOD SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!

Milestones

It was a weekend full of milestones.
We said hello to our new Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which we'll own for at least 10 years if Steve has his way. Sam mastered the art of sitting up, which will come in handy for the rest of his life. And finally, after two weeks of rice cereal, Sam embraced the taste of sweet potatoes, which he'll probably decide he hates next year.

Half Pint's Half Birthday

When Samuel was about two months old I called my Mom to moan and wail about being exhausted. I told her it was overwhelming to keep up with Sam when I was up all night every night. We were stuck inside as the winter dragged on and while I was madly in love with Sam, I felt like my life had been turned upside down. My Mom's reply? "It's just really hard for the first six months." WHAT?!?! SIX MONTHS?? I remember feeling like I had been punched in the gut. Six months was an eternity! I hung up and looked at the calendar. Six months put us squarely in the middle of May. It was January. How would I ever survive?

Well, I'm happy to report May 15 has come and gone and Sam, Steve and I all survived. Sam makes us happier than we ever could have imagined. It's truly amazing to watch him grow and explore the world around him. When I look at the calendar now I can't wait to see what the next six months hold.

Looks like my Mom was right again!

Ode to Mom

They say you learn by example and in my case I was lucky enough to watch my Mom in action for many, many years. Somehow she always had the drive and the energy to make my childhood fun. Her patience was endless, her creativity overflowing and her zest for life infectious. Oh, and her pancakes were pretty awesome too.

Thanks Mom. You're the greatest and Sam is so lucky to have you as a Grandma.

Eat Up!

Sam had his first run in with solid foods today (if that's what you want to call Rice Cereal). I'd say it was a pretty good experience for him. About a third landed on his bib, another third stuck to his chin and the final third went right down the tubes.
